  • Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+, will launch on November 12, 2019.
  • It will host original series and television, in addition to existing Disney-owned content as well (such as Marvel and Star Wars movies)
  • Here is all the original content Disney+ is planning.

Fellow cord cutters, the golden age is almost among us. Sure, we’ve already got the likes of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBOGo, and numerous others, with Apple TV and Warner Media’s HBO Max on the way soon as well. But leading the wave this fall—on November 12, to be precise—is Disney’s new streaming service, appropriately called Disney+.

The biggest draw, initially, may be the fact that Disney+ will host content that already exists from studios owned by Disney; that means that your favorite stuff from the Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars worlds will all live here (eventually; many properties have their rights contracted elsewhere, which Disney will allow to expire before moving to Disney+). Additionally, since Disney now owns 20th Century Fox, The Simpsons entire catalogue will live here as well.

But one of the biggest draws for Disney+ will also be—like Hulu, which Disney also owns—original series and films. There’s a lot of exciting stuff on the horizon, including a number of series coming from Marvel, like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki, WandaVision, and more. But those aren’t due until Fall 2020 at the earliest. In the meantime, let’s take a look at the Disney+ shows that will be available at launch—premiering one episode per week, just like the old days.

    The Mandalorian

    Disney

    TV Series
    Premiere:
    November 12, 2019
    Cast:
Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, Gina Carano, Taika Waititi
    What’s it all about?
Set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, The Mandalorian is the first ever live-action Star Wars series. With Jon Favreau (who directed Iron Man and The Lion King) as showrunner, the show will follow Pascal (Game of Thrones’ Oberyn Martell) as the titular Mandalorian, which probably sounds familiar because it’s the race of a guy you may remember named Boba Fett.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

    Disney

    TV Series
    Premiere:
    November 12, 2019
Cast: Joshua Bassett, Olivia Rodrigo, Matt Cornett, Kate Reinders, Julia Lester
    What’s it all about?
You remember the original High School Musical? Don’t lie, you do. We all do. The star of the original may be one of our favorite guys these days, but Disney+’s new series is pushing a new generation to the forefront, and with a particularly meta twist. The title is no mistake: this is a series about a fictional high school putting on a high school musical production of, you guessed it, High School Musical.

The World According to Jeff Goldblum

    Disney

    TV Series
    Premiere: November 12, 2019
    Cast:
    Jeff Goldblum (uhhh, of course)
What’s it all about: From National Geographic (also owned by Disney), this genius travel series will follow the legendary actor (star of Jurassic Park, The Fly, and Thor: Ragnarok, among other classics) as he, well, does just about any and everything. From tattoos, to ice cream, to tatoos, each episode will find him coming and exploring a topic with no advnace research: going on camera with only his life experience and immense charm. What a glorious premise.

    Lady and the Tramp

    Disney

    Film
    Premiere:
    November 12, 2019
    Cast:
Tessa Thompson, Justin Theroux, Janelle Monáe, Ken Jeong, Sam Elliott
    What’s it all about:
The latest ‘live action’ remake of an animated Disney classic (following The Lion King, Aladdin, The Jungle Book, etc) will be this animal-centric love story. Disney got quite the charming cast for the ride, too, as Lady and the Tramp are voiced by Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux, respectively. That’s one cool pair of dogs, if you ask us.

    Noelle

    Disney

    Film
    Premiere:
    November 12, 2019
Cast: Anna Kendrick, Bill Hader, Billy Eichner, Shirley Maclaine
    What’s it all about:
If you think it’s too early to start talking about Christmas movies, well, there’s some bad news for you—because we’re doing this thing. Noelle is an original movie that finds Noelle (Kendrick), the daughter of Kris Kringle, the latest in a long line of Santa Claus’s, and her brother, Nick Kringle (Hader). Nick is set to become the new Santa after their father’s retirement, but doesn’t seem to feel up to it—and craziness ensues. This is a family movie through and through—for Hader fans, well, Barry this is not—but it should definitely make for some nice holiday viewing. Everyone needs one of these once in a while.
