Getting a tattoo is an incredibly personal decision: it will be with you forever, unless you want to go through the lengthy and painful removal process. So your ink should be meaningful. It should say something about who you are, and what you stand for as a human being. Or, alternatively, it could just be an uncanny depiction of Joe Rogan’s big grinning face.
Fans of the comedian and podcaster have been showing their dedication by getting tattoos of his face, and Rogan has been sharing photos of them on Instagram. “These never stop being real fucking weird,” he says.
Other tattoo portraits veer into surreal territory, such as this one which features Rogan with a third eye (which he sports in the artwork for his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience):
And then there’s this galaxy brain masterpiece, which includes Rogan’s favorite, ahem, plantlife, and which shows him with no fewer than five eyes.
They’re a fitting way to pay tribute to Rogan, given that his podcast often involves lengthy conversations of cosmic scale, as he and his guests talk about everything from sports (Rogan is also a UFC commentator) to the complexities of the space-time continuum. Seriously. One episode of the show gained considerable attention for featuring a very stoned Elon Musk.
A commonly cited source of frustration among tattoo artists is that so many customers come into their shops asking for unoriginal, clichéd designs and don’t provide any kind of creative challenge. Want to really see if your artist is up to scratch? Ask for a comedian with five eyes, all of which hold unanswered questions about the universe.
